Classroom based contexts

The Tabletop Moviemaking method is specifically tied to California writing standard 2.1 which focuses on narrative writing.  The support resources in the kit focus on writing as a process with particular attention paid to pre-writing exercises.  There are mini-lessons which look at more specific mechanics such as punctuating dialogue at a latter stage in the writing process.  When students perform their scrips, teachers are able to target oral standards for Tone, Pace and Volume.

School Profile: Adapting an Opera into Animated Shorts

Tabletopmedia recently completed a collaborative arts project between Los Angeles Education Partnership, 826LA, LA Opera and Garfield High School. The project had sophomores examine universal themes from Wagner’s Ring cycle operas and then adapt them into modern day short stories.  Then with the help of Tabletop Moviemaking they converted these short stories into a shooting script, then they were  turned into short animated movies.  Students were at the center of the authoring process from pre-writing all the way to editing the digital movies.  The movies were then screen to a large public audience at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles.  Below are gallery of photos,  a video highlighting the process and a student movie.
