Student drafting a story

“Language is the device for communication; it is the tool through which one individual comes to share the ideas and feelings of others.”
My Pedagogic Creed, John Dewey, 1897

Writing, Reading and Oral Language skills are developed throughout the Tabletop Moviemaking process. The writing process exposes participants to taking  their favorite pieces of writing and turn them into stories and then into scripts.

This writing process combines a variety of class wide writing prompts and writing games, small group collaborative writing, and individual writing projects. Participants have continuous encounters with reading as they edit, revise and perform their stories and scripts.

Once the stories are finished, participants learn how to format their story into a script for filming their Tabletop Movie. Dramatic reading skills are developed as participants learn how to change their tone, pace and volume to convey a certain energy and emotion for their characters as they practice their dialogue.
